Jakarta, To prevent unwanted matters to occur, LPG users, particularly households must understand tank placement requirements and LPG installing and usage procedure.

Based on the LPG Tank Storage Technical Manual in LPG Distribution and Usage draft arranged by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas MEMR, tank placement requirements are:

  1. LPG tanks to be placed in a space with well air circulation.
  2. There should be low ventilation near the floor.
  3. The tank`s position must always stand straight with valve facing up.
  4. LPG tank must be protected from rain and direct sunlight.
  5. The tanks should not be installed near fire source/oil/charcoal/firewood/coal stoves.
  6. Place gas stove flat area and far from flammable materials.

LPG installation and usage procedure:

  1. Ensure that new LPG tank that will be used has plastic seal on its valve.
  2. Ensure the rubber seal is attached inside the valve before connecting the regulator.
  3. LPG usage from the tank is conducted by connecting the regulator with the hose that connects them to the stove.
  4. Ensure that the clamp is well connected on both edges of the hose, which connects regulator with the stove.
  5. Ensure the switch knob on the gas stove is off when connecting the stove with LPG tank by hose.
  6. Remove the plastic seal on the valve and connect the regulator.
  7. Check the stove and tank first before turn on the fire. Gas leakage is indicated by the occurrence of a particular LPG smell.
  8. Ensure the regulator is not loose or possibly could come off.
  9. Switch the regulator knob clockwise 180 degrees until its position is vertical, so LPG gas could flow to the stove.
  10. Switch the regulator knob to off or `o`, if fire doesn`t show up on the stove.
  11. If gas leakage happens, a particular LPG smell would occur. Hence, apply the following steps:
    1. Don`t turn on fire or electricity.
    2. Open doors and windows to get air circulation.
    3. Release regulator, place LPG tank to open space.
    4. Call the nearest LPG agent/dealer.
  12. The hose must be avoided from heat and should not be suppressed.
  13. On LPG tank transporting or carrying or replacing activity from one place to another, it should not be thrown, slammed, or rolled.
  14. In general, LPG installation and usage procedure in household sector could be used by industrial and commercial sectors, which use LPG as their fuel.
