Jakarta,

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will conduct harmonization with the Ministry of Environment related to the implementation of Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environment Protection and Management, which has the potential to reduce oil production by 40%.

The assertion was addressed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Zahedy Saleh after inaugurated and took the oath of Deputy Head and Deputy of BPMIGAS in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Thursday (25/2).

According to Darwin, his party will perform technical lobbying on the implementation of the Act so as not to disrupt the national oil production.

"We need to anticipate that there is a tightening of requirements, among others (about) waste issued by the KKKS. This of course makes them (KKKS) must allocate a new budget to achieve these targets, "said Darwin.

Darwin further argued, the application of Environmental Law is not only a problem of PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, which contributes to the national oil reached 40%, but it is a problem that needs to be solved together.

"This is not only a task for Chevron, but also a collective task," he said.

In addition to Chevron, the contractor having its production threatened to decline due to the implementation of this rule is PT Pertamina EP. Both used steam flood technology.

The Director General of Oil and Gas Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Evita H. Legowo at the same opportunity added, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has sent a letter to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs requested that the contents of this issue can be solved together.

"Because the problem is not just in energy and mineral resources. Everyone will be affected if (KKKS) really need to stop the operation of some fields," Evita explained.

As a solution to this problem, Evita predicted her party would request postponement of the enforcement of these rules, while KKKS prepare themselves in accordance with existing rules.

"We will obey the law, but it will take time because to change the environmental quality standards need special facilities. Well this tool cannot be completed in a blink of an eye," she added.

Based on the discussions with Chevron, to prepare or change the means of sewage temperature of 45 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius, it may take until the end of 2010. As for changing the means of air emissions, it is estimated to be completed only in the late of 2012.

In addition to the environmental quality standards, other things jamming in the Environmental Law is a criminal provisions if the rules are not run by KKKS. It is feared to affect investment.

"For KKKS, rather than hit by penalty, not running the field`s (production) is better," said Evita.
